Tallinn, 2 June 2025. The Baltic Press Publishers’ Collective Management Organisation (BPCMO) entered into its first representation agreement with a Latvian news media publisher, i.e. LETA SIA. LETA is the Latvian national information agency, which has made unique scientific and technical developments in the field of content selection, editing. and development of other content services. LETA’s core asset is its experienced team of 150 employees – editors, reporters, regional correspondents, translators, photographers, video operators, information analysts, and many others.
The BPCMO is looking forward to welcoming other Latvian and Lithuanian news media publishers to join in the near future. To the BPCMO’s knowledge, no news media publishers in Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania have yet entered into licence agreements for licensing the rights laid down in Article 15 of the DSM Directive. The BPCMO is currently holding negotiations with major search engines.
The BPCMO is a collective management organisation established in June last year by the largest news media publishers of Estonia, whose main activity is to hold negotiations with various media content users (such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta (Facebook)) for the licensing of media content, collect the licence fees payable by them on the basis of licence agreements and distribute the fees received among the publishers who have joined the BPCMO.
Through the BPCMO, publishers will be able to more quickly and easily enter into agreements for licensing their media content and significantly optimise transaction costs. The objective of the BPCMO is to promote the rights and interests of all news media publishers.
The founding members of the BPCMO are public limited companies Delfi Meedia, Postimees Grupp, Õhtuleht Kirjastus, and Äripäev. In addition to LETA, to date, Estonian private limited companies Hiiu Meedia, Geenius Meedia, Nädaline and Raadio Kadi, and public limited company Võru Teataja have entered into a representation agreement with the BPCMO.
